The Hexham Historic Rally, scheduled to run on November 20th, should be of interest to road rally devotees, starved of action following the demise of the Maxsport Night Rally Series with the rally offering the twin benefits of a traditional road rally format plus the social element more commonly associated with daytime events.
Following a lapse of a couple of years when the organising Hexham & District Motor Club were unable to find a suitable route owing to the number of long distance events traversing the area, the organising team have received an assurance from the regional RLO that the proposed route is free from any clashes so it is all systems go to get the event up and running.
The Hexham Historic Rally will start from Allendale Market Place, where the old country inns and Victorian buildings will form a scenic backdrop to the start proceedings. The route will be based in the High Pennines and Hadrian’s Wall country where there are miles and miles of all asphalt, classic, traffic free roads offering endless possibilities to put on a classic route, hence the area’s popularity with events such as Le Jog, Rally of the Tests and Flying Scotsman.
The almost total absence of any traffic in the area gives the organisers the opportunity to feature an early evening start meaning the Hexham Historic can finish before midnight with the traditional, and highly popular “Apres Rally Buffet”. This years event will finish at the 17th century Allenheads Inn, an establishment famous for the quality of home cooked cuisine.
The 2010 Hexham Historic Rally will offer a classic 120 mile route on all asphalt roads with straightforward navigation and the Entry fee of £35:50 includes Road Book, rally plates, rally badge and tickets for the “Apres Rally” buffet. As many of you will be aware, the running of the last 12 Car event, the Summer Solstice, gave rise to complaints from members of the public. Although a representative of the club has contacted the aggrieved parties, and the matter has been amicably settled, the incident has created considerable problems
The committee have, therefore, decided that it would be in the best interest of the club to suspend the 12 car events for the present time, we will also not be running the Hexham Historic and John Robson Rallies, scheduled to take place on September 29th.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the numerous competitors who have supported the 19 Wednesday night events we have run in the last 2½ years. We are pleased to have been able to introduce lots of newcomers, particularly a good number of young people, to motorsport and to have provided enjoyable and affordable fun for lots more people who have been able to participate in rallying at grass roots level.
We would particularly wish to thank that grand band of enthusiasts, the marshals, who have turned out in all weathers to help run the events, without their invaluable assistance it would not have been possible to hold the events and we are truly grateful to them all.
We shall be arranging an Awards Night, to present the trophies for the events which have been run during 2007, all participants and marshals will receive an invitation to join us for a fun filled evening and a final chance to sample the famous “Apres Rally Pies” at the Dr. Syntax. IMPORTANT NEWS
Following the last 12 Car rally, The Summer Solstice, there were a couple of complaints to the police about the driving behaviour and speed of cars. Naturally, we find this very disconcerting and it is certainly something we do not want repeating. Certainly I have no wish to upset people, or to have to explain myself to the police, the MSA or their local RLO. It follows therefore, that all competitors on the next 12 Car must drive with the utmost consideration for the public, residents on the route and, indeed, other road users. If you come across any pedestrians, or populated areas, SLOW DOWN. We will monitor the situation on the next event and sincerely hope there will be no cause for concern.
